Abstract
Handwritten letter from Richard Luce, agent for Sailors' Snug Harbor, to Captain Thomas Melville, accompanying the bearer, John. A. Brown, who is seeking entry to the Snug Harbor. Luce explains that Brown had only just come for his application, made to Captain Samuel Cobb, previously the agent of the Trustees of Sailors' Snug Harbor, on September 17, 1779. Brown was not admitted at that time because his children were caring for them but no longer wish to do so. Luce notes that he has had a letter from Sturgess, Clearman & Co. confirming that Brown is the same man they gave a letter of recommendation to for entry to the Snug Harbor on November 12, 1878.
