Identifier
SC-0016-III-A-1-0215Abstract
Handwritten letter from Charles Orr, M.D., of the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary, to Captain Thomas Melville, regarding payment of a bill for Sailors' Snug Harbor inmate Horace Curtis, who stayed at the Infirmary for four weeks while receiving treatment for his eyes. The superintendent of the Infirmary, "Miss C. E. De Treville" presented a bill to Mr. [Thomas?] Greenleaf, who stated that as Curtis's permit to leave the Snug Harbor was for only one week, only one week of his board would be paid. Orr explains that treatment required four weeks, as Curtis's eyes were "seriously afflicted" and that the attending surgeon, Dr. [Peter] Callan deemed four weeks necessary for treating him. Orr requests payment of the full amount of board for the four weeks. Type Of Resource
