Handwritten letter from Edward Newman, former inmate of Sailors' Snug Harbor residing at the Richmond County Poorhouse, to the Governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor, requesting that he be permitted to return to the Snug Harbor. He explains that he has only committed the single offense for which he was suspended and that he was unable to adequately represent himself in speaking to the governor. He promises to strictly follow the rules if allowed to return. Received while Captain Thomas Melville was governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor. Type Of Resource
