Abstract

Handwritten letter from F. Alexandre and Sons, New York, Havana & Mexican Mail Steamship Line, to Captain Thomas Melville, about a former employee named John Thomas, who has asked for a recommendation to be sent on his behalf to Sailors' Snug Harbor. The writer explains that Thomas was last employed with them on the brig "Glenwood" and states that while they do not remember Thomas, after conversation, they believe him to be worthy of consideration for entry to Sailors' Snug Harbor. Received while Captain Thomas Melville was governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor.
