Abstract

Handwritten letter from John Lockwood, gas and hydraulic engineer, to Captain Thomas Melville, regarding a previous conversation between the two about gasworks in New Brighton. Lockwood mentions that he is starting an "opposition gas works" to reduce the price for providing gas, and offers to provide a proposal to furnish Sailors' Snug Harbor with gas for five years.
