Handwritten letter from John Lockwood, gas and hydraulic engineer, to Captain Thomas Melville, regarding a previous conversation between the two about gasworks in New Brighton. Lockwood mentions that he is starting an "opposition gas works" to reduce the price for providing gas, and offers to provide a proposal to furnish Sailors' Snug Harbor with gas for five years.
The collection is on permanent loan at the Stephen B. Luce Library of SUNY Maritime College. The Sailors' Snug Harbor records are the Property of the Trustees of the Sailors’ Snug Harbor.
