Abstract

Handwritten letter from Captain Thomas Melville, to Captain J. [John] M. Farrier [Ferrier], of Seamen's Fund and Retreat, regarding a man named George Eastman who used to be an inmate at Sailors' Snug Harbor. Melville notes that Eastman's time at the Harbor was bad, but he believes the experience has taught Eastman a lesson. Melville recommends Ferrier accept Eastman into his institution.
