Abstract

Handwritten letter from J. [Joseph] R. Wilson, writing from the N.Y. City Asylum for the Insane on Wards Island, to Captain Thomas Melville, asking whether Wilson has been expelled from Sailors' Snug Harbor. Wilson has spoken to Dr. Lafferty at the asylum, who said that he could ask Melville about returning, and expresses a strong desire to return to the Harbor so that he may see his friends again, as well as Mr. [Charles J.] Jones, the Harbor chaplain.
