Abstract
Handwritten letter from Sailors' Snug Harbor inmate A. W. Lavender to Captain Gustavus D. S. Trask, requesting a full suit of winter clothing. He also mentions his current leave of absence. A second slip of paper includes a reply written on behalf of Governor Trask informing Lavender that he received a full suit, including overcoat, in 1884 and is therefore now entitled to a pair of winter pants and two suits of underclothes, not a new overcoat. Lavender's letter is dated September 17, 1888 and the note to him is undated.
