Two letters, the first of which is dated July 5, 1875, from Wm. [William] Underhill, inmate of Sailors' Snug Harbor, to R. B. [Robert Bowne] Minturn, requesting that Minturn's firm supply Underhill with a wheelchair that can be used outside, as he was injured whilst serving aboard the Cornelius Grinnell, which was owned by Minturn's firm, Grinnell, Minturn, and Company. Underhill notes that he cannot provide enough for his two small children, so is asking for charity. Underhill refers Minturn to Captain Melville to confirm his identity.
The second letter is from Robert B. Minturn to Captain Thomas Melville, regarding the letter he received from Underhill. Minturn asks Melville if he knows if Underhill is a deserving person and whether Melville and can confirm his situation. Type Of Resource
