Collection Description

Thomas F. Caldwell was born on January 7, 1908 in Brooklyn, New York. In 1925 he graduated from the New York State Nautical School after 1.5 years of study and sea training as an engineering cadet aboard the Schoolship Newport. A small collection of papers and artifacts document Caldwell's time at the New York State Nautical School and subsequent maritime career. Highlights include Caldwell's daily log from the schoolship Newport in 1925 and a photographic portrait of Caldwell as a young graduate.
