Abstract
Handwritten letter from William C. Bagley, Steward at the McLean Asylum for the Insane, to Captain Thomas Melville, whom he addresses as the Superintendent of Sailors' Snug Harbor [the actual Superintendent at this time was R. P. Smythe]. Bagley is seeking information regarding the "Non Pariel" [Non Pareil?] washing machine, as the McLean Asylum is seeking to purchase new machines for their facility and Sailors' Snug Harbor is listed as an institution that has the washing machines in question. He wishes to know Melville's opinion of the machines and if he can offer a comparison of the "Standard Washing Machine" versus the Non Pariel.
