Notes for a letter from Captain Thomas Melville, Governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor

Abstract
The notes are handwritten and appear to be a response to the letter from Alpheus Hardy of February 21, 1880 (SC-0016-III-A-1-0176), regarding J. [John] W. Lewis. Melville explains that Lewis was admitted to Sailors' Snug Harbor in June 1878 in a "very destitute condition" and soon began to complain about conditions at Sailors' Snug Harbor and stir up discontent among the other inmates. In  August 1879, Lewis also wrote a letter of complaint to the Trustees, though Melville claims that his complaints were investigated and found to be groundless, but went on to publish "several insidious articles" in the New York Star newspaper. He was then expelled in November 1879. Melville invites Hardy (?) to visit Sailors' Snug Harbor the next time he is in New York and gives directions on how to reach their location. [Cataloger's note: The notes are not dated or signed, but were presumably written in February or March of 1880 by Captain Melville.]
