Abstract
Handwritten letter from Dr.  N. W. [Nathaniel Wilson] Leighton, of the Brooklyn Board of Examining Surgeons, to the Governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor, asking whether John J. Mortimer is an inmate of Sailors' Snug Harbor and, if so, his physical and mental condition, as the Brooklyn Boar dof Examining Surgeons requires this information to establish his rate of pension. Leighton mentions having written to Dr. [Stephen Van Rensselaer] Bogart asking for this information but notes that Bogart has not yet replied. A notation in red at the top of the page from Captain Melville requests that Dr. Bogart write a reply and forward it to his office. Received while Captain Thomas Melville was governor at Sailors' Snug Harbor.
