Abstract
Handwritten letter from H. [Horace] A. Buttolph, of the New Jersey State Asylum for the Insane, to Captain Thomas Melville, continuing the correspondence regarding Edward W. Hayes. Buttolph states that he does not believe that Hayes is fully restored, as his convulsive attacks are only kept at bay with regular medication that he believes Hayes will not take regularly if he leaves the asylum. He believes Hayes's desire to leave is motivated by his wife, whom Buttolph describes as "irresponsible."
