Abstract
Handwritten file copy of a letter from Governor Thomas Melville to Lieutenant Commander Edward Hooker, responding to Hooker's letter "of Aug 12th" and sending Hooker a copy of the Sailors' Snug Harbor bylaws. Melville invites Hooker to visit the Harbor himself to evaluate conditions and management there and explains that there are 725 inmates and a new dormitory building is being constructed.
