Identifier
SC-0016-III-A-1-0203
Abstract
Handwritten document bequeathing William Sherrard's effects ("personal clothing &c") to Ole Helgesen, with Sherrard's mark and signed also by Charles Ford. In the upper left corner is an embossed seal with domed buildings and the header "CONGRESS" (?) and the paper appears to have been torn from a larger sheet. Written while Captain Thomas Melville was the governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor.

[Cataloger's note: The statement itself is dated October 29 but an annotation on the back, for filing purposes, states Oct 29/80, which correlates with the period just preceding Sherrard's death on November 14, 1880.]
