Abstract
Handwritten letter from Richard Luce, agent for Sailors' Snug Harbor, to Captain Thomas Melville, noting that this [attached?] application is mutilated, as it was made up before the applicant in question, Sam'l [Samuel] B. Quig [variant spelling: Quigg] visited Luce and had to be altered. Luce states that Quig was known to Captain Benj[amin?] S. Cutter, who knew Melville in China. Luce requests that Dr. Bogart examine the applicant and that Melville contact him with further instructions.
