Abstract
Handwritten letters from John Endicott, to Captain Thomas Melville, regarding the liberties of John Mansfield [presumably an inmate at Sailor's Snug Harbor]. In the first letter, dated November 4, 1868, Endicott states he has seen Mansfield around the city with no business to attend to, and sometimes no means to get back to the Island [presumably Staten Island]. He requests that Melville limit his liberties in this regard. In the second letter, dated January 21, 1869, Endicott remarks that he has learned that Mansfield may be expelled and he wishes to comment on the matter.
