Abstract

Handwritten letter from Captain Thomas Melville, Governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor, to R. B. [Robert Bennet] Forbes, of Sailors' Snug Harbor of Boston, regarding the letter Forbes sent inquiring about information on a man that had come to Sailors' Snug Harbor of Boston. Melville writes that the man, named George W. Balls, had entered Sailors' Snug Harbor on November 29, 1867, and was a light hearted fellow. Melville also notes that Balls left on April 1, 1868, to live with his sister, and returned April 15, but left the next day. Melville states that Balls is not considered to be a part of the institution anymore.
