Abstract
Handwritten pencil notes by Captain Thomas Melville, Governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor, for a letter to F. Alexandre & Sons. Melville writes that he is replying to their letter of August 2 and encloses a paper with the qualifications for admission to the Sailors' Snug Harbor and states that John Thomas must apply to Agent Captain [Richard] Luce. [Cataloger's note: The notes are undated but can be assumed to have been written in the same month, August, as the letter to which Melville is replying.]
