Abstract

Handwritten letter from Henry W. Shaw, to Sailors' Snug Harbor, explaining the repairs that he will make on the artificial limb, made by Dr. Hudson, for Snug Harbor inmate James McCauley. He will charge $15 for the repairs. [Cataloger's note: A notation above the letter indicating that a reply was sent on 19 September 1882 appears to be in the handwriting of Dr. Charles Henry King, of Sailors' Snug Harbor, and a notation in blue pencil on the left half of the page, which appears to be in Thomas Melville's handwriting, states that McCauley entered Snug Harbor in August 1878 at the age of 36 and that he was last at sea in 1868.]
