Abstract

Handwritten letter on behalf of Mrs. Hannah Carrier, to Captain Thomas Melville, regarding her husband Charles Carrier, also known as James Smith. Mrs. Carrier explains that her husband has not visited his family in years and when last she visited him at the Seamen's Retreat, he was ill and unable to contribute to his family. She states that Dr. C. Henry King had passed on his current address and asks Melville if Carrier is currently well enough to contribute to his family. A notation states that a reply was sent on January 20, 1872.
