Abstract

Handwritten letter from John Bahns, inmate of Sailors' Snug Harbor, to Captain Gustavus D. S. Trask, regarding his interest in navigation and astronomy and discussing the maps and tables that he has made of his observations on the same around the Harbor. He asks if Trask or one of his acquaintances is interested in purchasing the maps and tables. 

[Cataloger's note: The date of the letter is unclear, as he states that he has been an inmate since May 12, 1884, and the filing notation in the upper left corner states that as the date, but on the back is a notation in the lower left corner, with Bahns's room assignment, stating october 20, 1885.]
