Abstract

Handwritten letter from Joseph W. Stevens, inmate of Sailors' Snug Harbor, to Captain Gustavus D. S. Trask, explaining that J. [John] W. Smith, who died several days earlier, had given Stevens a small amount of money before his death, to which Stevens believes he is entitled. He mentions that this was given in the presence of two witnesses, the nurse and the other "the Patient Harvey" [William Harvey?] and that immediately afterward, he informed "Mr. [Frank?] Jeffers" of the facts.
