Abstract

Handwritten letter from Henry D. D. Burlingame, inmate of Sailors' Snug Harbor, to Captain Gustavus D. S. Trask, asking to be separated from his current roommate, Charles Sommers [Summers]. He states that his room is loud due to its proximity to the water closet but that this would be tolerable except for his roommate's profanity and cruel words to him. He claims Summers has lied about him to other inmates and Mr. Clark. He also has discussed the issue with the captain of the house [Name illegible--La Freo?]. Burlingame says that he would be happy to be moved, or have Summers moved, whichever serves to get him away from Summers.
