Abstract

Handwritten letter from William Hilt, inmate, Sailors' Snug Harbor, to Captain Thomas Melville, regarding [Edwin] Barlow, who he accuses of assaulting a number of Harbor inmates. In the letter and notes on the back are names including Buckley, Warbeck, Calder, Dave Jone, Brittan, Patterson, Calder, Parrott, Jerry [Jeremiah] Latour, Captain Frank Smith [F. L. A. M. Smith?], William Ward, Lewis, and Wheaton, "or any old Inmate.] Hilt requests that a warrant be procured for Barlow's arrest. There are pencil notes on the back regarding a number of these incidents.
