SC-0016-I-D-1-B-187
Abstract

Handwritten letter from "A Citizen" to the governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor, expressing concern about the behavior of some of the Harbor's inmates, particularly George "Doggan" [Dorgan?], a barber at the Harbor, and Patrick Bird, who have been working tending bar "in the house of Matt OConnor [sp?] called The Capitol house." The complainant also claims that a third inmate, Bob Barber, forced a servant girl out of her position at the same house and stole her job. The writer feels this is an injustice to other Staten Islanders who need work, given that the Harbor inmates are already provided for. Received while Captain Gustavus D. S. Trask was the governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor.
