Abstract

Handwritten letter from Charles Brown, inmate of Sailors' Snug Harbor, to "Captain Crass", apologizing for having not contacted Trask while he was away but informing him that he has returned to Brooklyn and hopes to stay with his sister there until October, as she is unwell. A notation in the upper left corner states that his leave expired on May 18, 1888. Received while Captain Gustavus D. S. Trask was the governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor.
