Abstract
Handwritten letter from Lorin H. Botsford, inmate of Sailors' Snug Harbor, to Captain Gustavus D. S. Trask, apologizing for his "unseemly and disastrous" departure from the chapel. He expresses his enjoyment of that evening's entertainment and states that he is very happy at the Harbor. He then explains that God has saved him from his former drinking and states that he is concerned about the "horrible cloud of mean low suspicition [sic] that is sapping the very essence of all the goodness out of this institution..." and hopes that "the people in New York" will leave the Harbor alone.
