Abstract
Handwritten letter from T. Bowen to Captain Thomas Melville, writing on behalf of John Whitney, an inmate at the harbor, requesting an extension on his leave of absence. Bowen states that he and Whitney came to the harbor [while Melville was away] to make the request in person, but were told a letter would suffice. Bowen also adds that he has been unwell for the last two months and may be going to Mexico soon.
