Abstract
Handwritten letter from Ashel Burrows [Ashall Burroughs?], to Dr. Boget [Stephen Van Rensselaer Bogart], requesting to prolong his leave for three weeks or possibly longer, stating his health is improving. He asks Dr. Bogart to inform the Governor [Captain Thomas Melville] and the Steward [Joseph K. Clark] of his absence. He also asks if a "Mr. Ford" could take care of his clothes for him.

[Cataloguer's Note: There is no "Ashel Burrows" in the inmate records, but rather a "Ashall Burroughs". "Mr. Ford" may be Martin Ford.]
