Abstract
Handwritten copy of letter from John E. Norden, to Captain Gustavus D. S. Trask, requesting permission to stay and work at a lighthouse in New York City. Norden describes his past with the institution and how despite being invalid for about 10 years, he has improved enough to work. Norden asks Trask that he be given permission to work as long as he lives, and return if he should be injured or sick. The signature at the end is not the original signature of the author.
