Abstract
Handwritten letter on two sheets of paper from James O. Elliott, former inmate of Sailors' Snug harbor, residing at the Hudson River State Hospital, to Sailors' Snug Harbor. Elliott wishes to be discharged from the hospital and waive all connection to the Harbor. He is unhappy to be "placed behind Iron Bars" and states that Dr. Joice [Henry DeWitt Joy?] had promised him that he would be able to come and go as he liked, but that this is not the case. He gives the names of several references [these are difficult to make out, as the handwriting is challenging]. Received while Captain Gustavus D. S. Trask was the governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor.
