Handwritten letter from Thomas Ferguson, inmate of Sailors' Snug Harbor, to the governor, explaining that he worked the previous summer washing leaves off the walk by the Monument and that in August, Captain [Hiram M.] Chaffee said that if he got ice from the hospital and served it, Chaffee would see that Ferguson was paid for it, however, that Chaffee had not even paid him enough to buy a box of matches. Received while Captain Gustavus D. S. Trask was the governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor.Type Of Resource
