Abstract
Handwritten letter from Thomas Ferguson, inmate of Sailors' Snug Harbor, accusing Captain [Hiram M.] Chaffee of persecuting him. He claimed he was not paid for work Chaffee promised to pay him to do the previous August. He claims that he mentioned to Mr. McDonald that this was happening and that if Trask questions Chaffee, he would like to be present as he wants to be sure Trask hears the whole story. He states that he wrote a letter to the City the previous week but wished to send this letter to Trask first. Received while Captain Gustavus D. S. Trask was the governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor. [Cataloger's note: The letter is not dated but is filed in the Jan-Jun 1890 folder.]
