Abstract
Handwritten letter from J. [John] B. Tullock, inmate of Sailors' Snug Harbor, to Captain Gustavus D. S. Trask, regarding a debt of ten cents that he is owed by another inmate, "Volsky" [William Volske], known as "Billy the Baker," who purchased a quart of blackberries from Tullock on credit and has not paid him back. Tullock asks for Trask's help in recovering the debt and states that even Volske's roommate, Mr. Barber, has stated Volske will not pay back the money. Tullock also claims that Volske, who came from the Seamen's Retreat via Dr. [C. Henry] King, had not served enough time to qualify to be an inmate at Sailors' Snug Harbor, based on the word of "Captain Rogers," presumably also an inmate.
